The four-song cycle was recorded with soprano Maria Taxidou at Studio Park in Stuttgart. Marking Christos’s first work in the field of classical vocal music, First Land reflects on the idea of homeland not only as a geographical place, but as something we carry within us, an inner landscape shaped by memory, voices, and light.

Written after many years of living away from Greece, the work emerged from a desire to return, at least musically, to a place that continues to shape the composer’s artistic and personal identity. In this sense, homeland shifts from the external to the internal, becoming a space of recollection and transformation.

At the same time, the cycle places the land itself at its center: not only as a place of origin, but as a living presence that remembers. The land is conceived as a body that holds within it time, traces, and the voices of those who came before.

Across its four songs, the cycle traces what drifts away yet never disappears: a door that remains open, the unspoken that resonates through time, the quiet voice of the earth, and the sun that illuminates the path of return.

With First Land (Πρώτη Γη), Christos Danakas invites the listener into an intimate sound world, addressed to those who carry within them their own “first land”, whether as memory, absence, or an ongoing search.
